Calculate pitcher availability

Baseball ages 7–16.

Total game pitches on this date, across all teams.

Future dates show a projected result.

Beyond today's pitch count

Start with the pitch count. Keep the whole workload in view.

A game pitch count is a practical starting point for planning rest. Looking after a young pitcher also means considering practices, bullpens, lessons, throwing for another team, and how the player feels.

Use this calculator to answer one question about one outing. Before the next game, ask the bigger questions too: What else have they thrown this week? Have they had time to recover? Are they showing fatigue or reporting discomfort?

Keeping that information together makes it easier to have informed conversations with players and families—and make thoughtful pitching decisions.

Planning guidance, not medical advice

This calculator uses one date's game-pitch total. It does not check earlier outings, consecutive-day restrictions, or every league rule. A calculated date is not medical clearance. Consider other workloads and how the player feels, and consult a qualified medical professional about pain or health concerns.

Useful questions

Pitcher rest calculator FAQ

If my pitcher throws Saturday, can they pitch Sunday?

The calculator returns Sunday only when the entered count is in a zero-rest band. Earlier outings, the three-consecutive-day restriction, and your league's eligibility rules may still require a later return.

Full rest days are counted after the pitching date. If Saturday's pitch count requires one full rest day, Sunday is the rest day and Monday is the calculated next pitching date. The pitching date itself does not count as a rest day.

Does zero rest mean the pitcher can throw again the same day?

No. Zero full rest days means the next calendar date in this tool. Pitch Smart age guidance also warns against pitching in multiple games on the same day.

What if the pitcher threw earlier in the week?

This calculator checks one date's game-pitch total. Earlier outings may require additional rest, so review the player's recent workload before making the next pitching decision.

Pitch Smart also says a pitcher should not pitch on three consecutive days, regardless of pitch counts. This calculator cannot check that restriction because it collects only one date. Read the USA Baseball guideline update.

What if my league uses different rules?

Follow the stricter applicable requirement. This calculator displays MLB / USA Baseball Pitch Smart guidance and does not decide league exceptions or full eligibility.

How is this different from team workload tracking?

This anonymous calculator looks at one date's game pitches and does not save the calculation. An Inningly team keeps the workloads you record, applies your team's configured rest schedule, and shows availability during upcoming game and lineup planning. Team availability remains planning guidance, not a check of every pitching rule or a medical assessment.

You can record games, practices, bullpens, and other throwing activity with your team. That broader record does not mean this public calculator treats warmup or bullpen throws as official game-pitch equivalents. See how to record pitcher workload.

The separate Pitch Counter counts pitches during a session but does not automatically save workloads to a team.
